Mrs. McNamee
Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to 6th grade Math! This year we will be studying a variety of topics based on the Common Core State Standards. We will also focus on problem solving, PARCC preparation, and literacy skills through project based learning.
Students are expected to arrive to class on time and with their materials. Each student should bring their planner, math folder, 2 single subject notebooks, and two pencils to class every day. At home, you may want to provide your child with a designated study space with pencils, scrap paper, calculator and the red reference book that will be provided. This reference book is an easy to read guide and is great for homework help.
Students will receive a homework packet each Friday which is due the following Friday. The homework packet serves both as practice of current topics as well as review of skills taught previously in the year. Students can hand in their homework packet Monday - Wednesday and get it corrected with no grade, so students can make corrections before final turn in Friday. Additional homework may be given throughout the year, including PARCC practice or projects. If a student is absent, he or she is responsible for making up any missed work within one week of the absence.
Extra help is available after school on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Students are required to sign up for extra help during the school day and to indicate what they would like help with, such as homework, test and task revisions, etc. Students may revise unit tests and quizzes and earn back up to half of points lost. Framingham Public Schools uses X2, an online grading system, to post student grades. Parents and students can log in anytime to check current grades, missing assignments, and test scores.
Grading Breakdown
Homework 10%
Classwork and Participation 10%
Projects 20%
Unit Tests & Quizzes 60%
Please feel free to contact me by email or phone. I'm looking forward to a successful year!
